The United Aero / Airview Fire Surveillance team recently returned from Dubbo in Central West New South Wales, where they participated in the NSW Rural Fire Service Training Week, a key annual event focused on aviation capability, coordination, and volunteer training.

Representing Airview Fire Surveillance during the exercise were crew members Joshua Brookes Allen, Stefan Weber, Stephen Brookes, and pilot John Boag. The team joined a strong turnout of NSW RFS volunteers, aviation units, and administrative personnel from across the state.

Held under clear summer skies, the week proved to be both highly productive and informative, providing an ideal environment to showcase evolving aerial reconnaissance capabilities.

Operating alongside a number of other aircraft and specialist aviation teams, Airview conducted multiple demonstration flights and ground-based training sessions from the Dubbo Regional Headquarters. These sessions were designed to provide hands-on exposure to real-time aerial intelligence systems and their practical application in bushfire operations.

A key focus of the Airview deployment was to highlight the operational benefits of:

  • Real-time aerial reconnaissance

  • Live video downlink to ground operations

  • Thermal imaging for fire detection and monitoring

  • Geo-located mapping and situational awareness tools

The training week offered NSW RFS personnel the opportunity to see firsthand how these capabilities can support improved decision-making, enhanced fireground awareness, and increased safety for both air and ground crews.

With aerial intelligence playing an increasingly important role in modern firefighting, the Dubbo exercise reinforced the value of integrating advanced ISR capability into day-to-day operations.

The Airview team welcomed the opportunity to work alongside NSW RFS personnel and other aviation providers, contributing to a collaborative training environment and supporting the continued development of aerial firefighting capability across the state.
